Sarah Mclachlan
Inspiring, motivating, haunting and incredibly moving are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of Sarah's music.
I was introduced to this lady's music in 1997, by a friend in the United States.
Sarah's song 'Elsewhere' is where my WBS chat handle came from. It remains my most favourite song to this day.
Ms. Mclachlan was relatively unknown in the UK back then, and I had tremendous difficulty obtaining a copy of her CD 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy'.
I eventually got my hands on a copy late December 1997 and I never forget the first time I heard the mystical voice and lyrics that are Sarah's music.
I lay on the floor of my lounge, no lights on, just listening. It is rare for me to become engrossed in an Artist after hearing just a few songs, but from the first lines of 'Possession' I was hooked!
For days on end I continued listening to every song on the CD and I became incredibly confused as to why this lady was a hit across the Atlantic but no-one in the UK had heard of her.
It dismays and baffles me to realise that years later, Sarah has only had one minor hit in the UK, and her music has never really captured the attention of people to the extent it has in other countries.
I can only imagine the reason for this is poor marketing and little or no promotion of the lady and her material. For I am CONVINCED that if her material was given proper air-time in this country, she would be an enormous success.
I do recall hearing that Sarah played the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1998 . I was distressed to learn of this AFTER the event, and if anyone has details of the concert I would appreciate hearing from them.
Also, I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has details of Sarah playing in the UK at any time in the future.
Anyone who has not heard Sarah's music, should get out to their nearest record store and buy a copy of 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy'!
I am in the process of trying to obtain copies of her other CD's, and I have the utmost faith in them being as good as the one I continue to play to this day.
